ORIANA 2019, THE WEYBORNE

In general the vines were brought on early by a warm February and March – making a lot of England susceptible to frost attack. At Weyborne, our altitude protected the vines from the worst. Despite the summer being scorchingly hot, the growth was now on time, rather than early. So a very promising looking vintage by early September – but then came a deluge of rain during the harvest – causing a some of English vineyards to become a mud bath. Whilst this swelled yields – the wet slowed down sugar accumulation. At Weyborne we hand picked our best grapes to come away with a good vintage.

“You have to try this incredible English sparkling wine! I recently discovered @the_weyborne_estate and their newly released 2019 vintage, Oriana, which is a must-try. The Weyborne’s sparkling wines are absolutely delightful – like sipping Champagne but with a quintessentially English twist”

WEYBORNE ESTATE FAMILY RESERVE

The Family Reserve is the bottled essence of the annual production from the five vineyard blocks at Weyborne’s single vineyard estate. The Family Reserve captures the unique terroir and the interplay of the vines, the soil and climate. The Family Reserve is a Chardonnay led cuvée, so Blanc des Blancs in style, with the intensity and elegance this noble grape variety brings with the two Pinot grape varieties, Noir and Meunier provide a supporting act of vibrancy, power and body. The Family Reserve is a vintage reflection of the Weyborne Estate and in 2018 was dealt a near perfect hand for growing World class sparkling wine, so with 4 years of maturation the 2018 was bottled in 2022 with zero dosage to allow the essence of Weyborne to be revealed in its true and pure state.

TOM CANNAVAN

“… It is a dry sparkling wine, but it is fruit filled and far from austere. It has a fine mousse and really biscuity, creamy, nutty nose. Those autolytic aromas dominating the lemon and red apple fruit. In the mouth it zips along with dazzling freshness, but the nuttiness and the plush suggestion of sweet, ripe fruit at the core of this fills the mid-palate and gives excellent balance. A super impressive first tasting from this estate for me”
